Position: Managing Director(s)  

Our client is seeking Managing Directors who can identify, analyze, assess and execute potential Energy Technology or Clean Technology, Technology, and Life Sciences venture financing investment opportunities.   
 

Responsibilities Include:  

New Business Development Opportunities

  • Calling on venture capital, and private equity firms, and other sources of business opportunities both in person and by telephone.

  • Calling on venture capital and private equity backed companies, both in person and by telephone.

  • Identifying potential new investment prospects, performing initial review of business opportunities and presenting opportunities to the Investment Committee for consideration.

  • Identify new Technology sub-sector investment opportunities in technology, clean teach, or life sciences and supervising industry and competitive research performed by Associates and Analysts.

  • Identifying new potential financial product offerings to further expand the business.

  Negotiating New Business

  • Drafting initial term sheets or expression of interest or letters of intent.

  • Directly negotiate with potential company management or venture capital investors, as well as other third parties to finalize a signed term sheet.

  • Represent our client during term sheet discussions.

  • Translating terms into the financial model while supervising Associates and Analysts.

  Due Diligence and Documentation

  • Leading business due diligence.

  • Supervising Associates and Analysts and directly conducting direct due diligence research through interviews with company management, financial sponsors and industry participants, company customers/clients.

  • Supervising Associates and Analysts and performing valuation analysis using comparable company data, proprietary financial models and, if applicable, DCF.

  • Serving as primary interface with management of prospective company.

  • Supervising construction of detailed financial models, including optimal capital structure, purchase price, adjustments and sensitivities to economic conditions

  • Drafting investment memorandum for initial and final Investment Committee review and approval while supervising Associates and Analysts in this process.

  • Reviewing legal documents to ensure fidelity to deal terms under supervision of chief Legal Officer and CFO.

  • Playing leadership role in managing to close the transaction.

  Portfolio Management

  • Monthly and quarterly monitoring and identify trends in business of portfolio companies.

  • Supervising Associates and Analysts in drafting quarterly credit monitoring reports.

  • Supervising Associates and Analysts in analyzing credit issues as they arise with portfolio companies.

  • Supervising Associates and Analysts in analyzing equity opportunities as they arise with portfolio companies.

  • Monitor portfolio company performance.

  • Support other Managing Directors, as a back-up, for managing the investment.

  • Identify portfolio company future financing opportunities.

  • Assist by drafting quarterly credit reports.

  • Assist in the preparation and presentations to the Board of Directors of various monitoring reports.

  Specific tasks are as follows:

  • Initial Deal Review and Execution

  • Assist in deal sourcing through targeted areas of interest within the various Technology sub-sectors industries or investment theses.

  • Initial deal review and screening.

  • Conducting all aspects of business, financial and industry due diligence.

  • Financial modeling and valuation analysis.

  • Preparing written presentations for Investment Committee.

  • Preparing industry/competitive research.

  • Interacting and establishing rapport with third party due diligence partners as well as potential prospective company management teams.

  Qualifications - Ideal candidates will have:

  • Minimum of five years of direct private equity, investment banking or principal investing experience in a Technology, Clean Tech, or Life Sciences-oriented environment.

  • Strong industry experience

  • Overall at least 10 years of relevant experience in Technology, Clean Tech, Life Sciences, VC, and venture finance.

  • Have extensive contacts in the private equity, venture capital and/or financial intermediaries’ communities.

  • The Managing Director position also requires strong analytical capabilities, financial modeling proficiency, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a willingness to be proactive in contacting people and learning, and a working knowledge of technology investing.

  • Taken on senior execution roles (including attending management meetings, involvement with deal structuring, pre and post investment portfolio management, etc.) in the transactions they worked sponsored or worked on.

  • Candidates must be intellectually curious, comfortable with technologies and possess strong ethical character.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Position requires communication with upper-level individuals at banks, equity groups, and existing and prospective clients.

  • Able to work in a fast pace environment

  • Ability to adapt to differing situations and changing priorities driven by changing market conditions.

  • Ability to work autonomously.

  • A confident, team player who listens to internal and external input but can take decisive action.
