About the Company:

Our client manufactures systems for the commercial construction industry. Customers include project owners, architects, mechanical and fire safety engineers, and general and mechanical contractors. The company owns the rights to proprietary product that offers exclusive access to a large and growing national market.  The product is a proven game changer, and our client has ambitious growth plans.  The company operates out of its Midwest headquarters and anticipates multiple manufacturing locations in the near future.  Company ownership is active, is experienced in building teams in rapid growth environments and is seeking a strong, proven individual with a developmental leadership style and a shirt sleeves work ethic.

Desired Qualifications:

The candidates for Chief Financial Officer should have a master's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in multi-plant and custom manufacturing environments.  This experience must be in the lower middle market sector.  Must have experience working effectively with an executive team, overseeing management of information systems, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills.  A Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation is strongly preferred.  Experience in rapid growth early stage organizations or greenfield business unit start-ups with similar organizational dynamics a plus.  Experience in a construction materials company a plus.

Basic Function: The Chief Financial Officer position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company, including development of financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, development and monitoring of control systems designed to support timely decision making throughout the company, preserve company assets, and promptly report accurate financial results.

The Chief Financial Officer will initially also assume the role of Controller, including the preparation of financial information and oversight of accounting staff, and will hire a Controller as growth requires. 

Principal accountabilities are:

Planning

  1. Assist in formulating strategy, establishing priorities and supporting tactical initiatives
  2. Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  3. Develop financial and tax strategies
  4. Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
  5. Develop long range resource planning tools
  6. Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction

Operations

  1. Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
  2. Develop and maintain effective  relationships with all members of the management team
  3. Manage the accounting, investor relations, legal, tax, and treasury departments
  4. Oversee the financial operations of subsidiary companies and foreign operations
  5. Oversee the company's transaction processing systems
  6. Implement operational best practices
  7. Collaborate with Human Resources in the development and administration of effective employee benefit plans
  8. Supervise acquisition and joint venture due diligence and collaborate in negotiations .

Financial Information

  1. Oversee the issuance of financial information
  2. Report financial results to stakeholders.

Risk Management

  1. Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  2. Monitor all legal issues involving the company and the industry
  3. Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  4. Maintain appropriate insurance coverages
  5. Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  6. Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors, union agreements and government agencies.
  7. Maintain relations with external auditors, investigate findings and recommendations

Funding

  1. Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  2. Arrange for debt and equity financing
  3. Maintain banking relationships
  4. Represent the company with investment bankers and investors

Supervises: Controller (s) and staff, I.T. Director and staff.  Works in a high energy office environment. Occasional travel domestically and overseas will be necessary.
