Our client is currently hiring for a President & Chief Operating Officer in the Midwest.  Our client manufactures systems for the commercial construction industry.  Customers include project owners, architects, mechanical engineers, and general and mechanical contractors.  The company owns the rights to a proprietary product that offers exclusive access to a large and growing national market.  The product is a proven game changer, and our client has ambitious growth plans.  The company operates out of its Midwest headquarters and anticipates multiple manufacturing locations in the future.  Company ownership is active, experienced in building teams in rapid growth environments and delegation to senior executives, and is seeking a strong, proven individual with a developmental leadership style and a shirt sleeves work ethic. Desired Qualifications: Candidate must have a sales DNA, a proven track record in an engineered products construction materials company and a progressive view of culture.  The candidate must understand the challenges of introducing a new and game changing technology into the construction industry and accustomed to bringing innovative thinking to the leadership process.  The candidate must be experienced in the use of sophisticated CRM information systems to support a direct sales effort.  Experience in rapid-growth, early-stage organizations or green field business unit startups with similar organizational dynamics is a plus.  The successful candidate must have a refined sense of the role of leadership in building a high-performance culture.

Education: An undergraduate degree is required.  An MBA and/or engineering degree a plus.

Initial Primary Responsibilities: The role of President / COO of the domestic business will include responsibilities for strategic planning, P&L, day-to-day operations in business development and sales, domestic engineering, manufacturing and operations, and human resources.  The successful candidate will be initially tasked with these key line responsibilities:

Strategy and Leadership

  • Collaborate with the CEO in the development and implementation of strategy, policy and goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other associations, industry, and government officials that are in the best interest of the company.

Revenue Generation and Marketing

  • Implement a robust go-to-market and revenue generation strategy with an aggressive product and sales roll out
    • Refine and implement the company’s growth strategy, including national expansion
    • Coordinate sales strategies to increase revenue with current customer base and in new markets and assist with expansion activities related to future growth
  • Sales Management – sales leadership in a rapid-growth environment
    • Hire, develop and manage all customer-facing sales, marketing and business development personnel to meet sales projections and high-end sales margins
    • Lead the M1 – client information system.  Augment when necessary.
  •  Marketing Management
    • Website review and optimization
    • Inbound marketing strategy, social media campaigns, blogs and webinars
    • Presentations, both certified and non-certified, and marketing collateral

Knowledge and Experience

  • Sales / marketing success in the construction industry engineered products field with customer focus in the MEP space a plus
  • Knowledge of construction, mechanical systems, budget development, estimating, scheduling and value engineering  
  • Engineering with oversight of engineering leadership, including R&D, product development to market, system design engineering, production quality and life safety regulations
  • Finance with demonstrated financial acumen, including ability to collaborate with the CFO to develop and maintain accurate projections, cost and activity reports, performance data and other KPI’s, effectively manage a P&L, budgets and support CEO in fund-raising activities
  • Human Capital with focus on superb leadership skills to mentor and coach, and integrate team efforts in a rapidly changing, decentralized growth organizational structure. 
  • Operations experience with quality management, to oversee both manufacturing and project management to ensure quality, schedule adherence and cost control, and foster fully aligned anticipatory sales-operations, customer-driven communication systems
