Our client is seeking a Corporate Development and M&A Associate / Vice President to join their team in Boston.

Our client was founded in 2017 in Hong Kong by a team of capital markets professionals who identified the need for an institutional full-service advisory and execution platform to realize the potential of blockchain technology and digital assets. They have assembled a team comprising over 120 leading capital markets, compliance, and technology professionals across 5 global offices who are addressing the vast opportunity of digital assets across three interlocking pillars; capital markets, advisory and asset management. 

About the Role
The Corporate Development and M&A position is responsible for sourcing and executing strategic acquisitions, partnerships, venture investments, and new business opportunities. They will work closely with a small research group focused on long term fundamental research to identify the best commercial opportunities for our client.

What They Are Looking For
They are looking for athletes who have demonstrated a full range of sourcing, analysis, and negotiating skills and have the tenacity and drive to own multiple projects without relying on a structured hierarchy. This is a highly entrepreneurial role where the ability to ‘get to no fast’ and continuously refresh the funnel is valued over producing Powerpoint analysis.   • Undergraduate degree from an Ivy League or equivalent University, summa cum laude or equivalent  
  • 5 years professional experience (venture capital, consulting, private equity, investment banking) 
  • Previous startup experience 
  • Demonstrable track record of closing deals on accelerated timelines with limited support
  • Ability to manage third-party vendors within the tight budgetary constraints of a startup
  • Excellent networking ability and hunger for sourcing opportunities 
  • Maturity to build and maintain relationships with corporate executives, founders, regulators, and vendors globally
  • An understanding of blockchain technology and its potential applications, acquired formally or independently
  • Prior investment in blockchain or cryptocurrencies is not a pre-requisite. Extensive due diligence or investing experience is a must 
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, market volatility, and confrontation 

Responsibilities

  • Direct Sourcing – build and maintain pipeline of strategic acquisitions, partnerships, venture investments, and new products or business opportunities
  • Support Head of Sales with business development initiatives 
  • Market mapping of competitors, partners, targets, and potential clients
  • Deal structuring and negotiations 
  • Responsible for all due diligence – valuation, financial models, legal, and commercial
  • Third party vendor management
  • Drafting and reviewing transaction documents
  • Investment/partner oversight 
  • Network with industry stakeholders, travel to conferences and key industry events where appropriate
