Biographies of Our Team:
Stephen Flynn is the founder and Managing Director of Phoenix Group International. He has over 27 years of experience in executive recruitment in the financial sector.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Steve served for five years in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Captain. He also earned two graduate degrees from the University of Oklahoma in the areas of Business Management and Human Resource Management while serving as a field artillery officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Prior to working in the executive recruitment field, Steve worked for Goldman, Sachs & Co. and held several executive positions at Philip Morris, Inc., in executive recruitment, MBA recruitment, and executive compensation. Steve's credentials are unique. He has both corporate recruitment experience and an investment banking background. This combination provides him with the experience to understand the recruitment requirements of the industry. Steve has also seen the changes in this industry over the past 27 years and has continually evolved his own recruitment strategies accordingly. While technology has become an important part of the industry, it will never overshadow the personal relationships Steve has developed with both candidates and clients.
JOANNE TOTH FLYNN
Joanne Toth Flynn heads the business development consulting group for Phoenix Group International. In addition, Joanne assists in our recruiting efforts. Joanne previously held the position of Vice President and Director of Global Training and Development at Goldman Sachs for nine years. She focuses on the full range of strategic business development issues facing the financial services industry.
Joanne is experienced in all aspects of organizational development and training on an international level. Her consulting engagements include the design, development and delivery of training & development programs on the topics of business development, client account management, strategic selling, management development, and executive coaching. At Goldman Sachs, Joanne implemented programs to improve the organizational effectiveness of business units, most notably investment banking, equities, fixed income and operations. Her consulting clients range from global investment banks to small private equity/venture capital firms.
Joanne holds a Master of Arts degree in Business Management from the University of Oklahoma. In addition, she holds a double degree major from the College of St. Elizabeth, as well as certificates from a variety of leading universities and professional training and development organizations.
Lynne Ballegeer has been recruiting in the financial industry with Phoenix Group International since 1991. Prior to 1991, Lynne worked at Pan American World Airways as Personnel Director for finance and information services at the company's headquarters. Lynne leverages her human resource experience with her recruiting experience in assisting her clients with their organizational development and compensation issues. Lynne works on openings throughout the United States for Phoenix Group International, with particular emphasis in the Midwest and Southeast Regions.
Lynne is a graduate of Berkeley College.
Greg Smit is an Executive Recruiter at Phoenix Group International. He brings 18 years of M&A, business development, start-up, and executive management experience to each recruiting engagement.
Early in his career, Greg was involved in capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, and divestiture transactions across the telecom, cable, and Internet industries, while working at Allegiance Telecom (now XO Communications), Pacific Telesis (now AT&T), and Paul Kagan Associates (now SNL Kagan). During this time, Greg worked side by side with investment bankers, Wall Street analysts, and private equity professionals to maximize the strategic value of corporate assets. He also led business development activities for Allegiance Telecom's software as a service (SaaS) business. Most recently, Greg was the founder and CEO of Live Learning Systems, the first streaming video platform for the medical continuing education industry.
Greg's deep personal relationships and extensive experience in strategic financial transactions, across several industries, provides him with an unique vantage point to truly understand the needs of the candidates and client companies in the private equity, investment banking, corporate development, and business development fields.
Greg holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Sonoma State University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of San Francisco.
Bryan Ballegeer is a part-time Research Associate for Phoenix Group International. Bryan currently works full-time at Harlem Success Academy in New York City. Bryan was a former intern with Phoenix Group. We are very pleased to have Bryan return to PGI. Bryan's knowledge of our business, combined with his excellent internet and social media skills, are valuable assets to our growth and competitiveness in this ever-changing technical world.
Bryan is a graduate of Indiana University, School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs and a Minor in Human Resources.
Devin Mildenberg is a Research Associate for Phoenix Group International.
Devin interned for several notable companies throughout the Indianapolis
area throughout college. Devin's knowledge of our business, combined with
his excellent internet and social media skills, are valuable assets to our
growth and competitiveness in this ever-changing technical world.
Devin is a graduate of Butler University, College of Business. He graduated
with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Donna Wilson is our Office Manager. Her educational background includes a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science from Loyola University in Chicago. Donna has previous work experience in the health care sector, including Banner Health, Ascension Health, and the American Hospital Association. She brings very strong technology and organizational skills to the position.
Phoenix Group International has affiliated itself with Lisa Conti. Lisa is an allied member of the Phoenix Group International team. She has over 15 years of experience in executive recruitment in the Financial Services sector, and she has now developed a recruiting niche in the Cloud computing business sector.
Lisa began her career in New York City for 10 years as a recruiter specializing in financial services. During that time, she worked with Winston Personnel and Phoenix Group International. Lisa subsequently relocated to her hometown of Boston, where she lives with her husband and children. She worked for Plymouth Rock Assurance Company, where she recruited at the executive level. In 2007, Lisa rejoined Phoenix Group International.
A graduate of Syracuse University, Lisa has been actively involved in her local community, serving in leadership roles at the board level. She is a Certified Personnel Consultant and a Toastmaster certified public speaker.

Ann Futch is an allied member of the Phoenix Group International Team. She founded Sierra Advisory Group in 2004. Previously, she spent nearly a decade as an investment banking professional, working at Alex. Brown, Montgomery Securities, and Credit Suisse First Boston. Throughout her career in finance, she covered the technology, healthcare, and consumer sectors, with product knowledge spanning private and public equity and debt securities and M&A. Ann's recruiting efforts focus on Analyst through Managing Director level searches for bulge bracket investment banks, advisory boutiques, and private equity/venture capital firms.
A graduate of The Johns Hopkins University, Ann holds a Master of Business Administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. She also is an endurance sports enthusiast who is passionate about marathon running, triathlon racing, and Nordic skiing.
KAREN BULLARD, Principal Consultant of HResource Solutions

Karen has over 25 years of corporate high-tech experience including 18 years in Human Resources. She has valuable hands-on knowledge with building human resource infrastructures in solo professional roles as well as executive team experience leading established HR operations. With excellent generalist expertise, Karen consults with firms in a variety of industries addressing their human resource needs.
Karen has worked primarily with small to mid-size companies in Silicon Valley, successfully integrating a variety of cultures in start-up environments and emerging companies from pre-IPO through IPO. In addition, Karen has successfully managed change during corporate mergers and acquisitions.
Working with senior management teams where her contributions are highly visible, Karen develops and implements employment lifecycle processes, performance management systems, employee retention and benefit programs, as well as areas of compliance with policy development and training.
Most recently, Karen was Director of Staffing & Organizational Development at an emerging enterprise software development firm in Silicon Valley. Karen’s professional affiliations include her active membership in the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the California Employer Advisory Council. She was the Northern California Human Resource Association (NCHRA) Vice President and Program Director for three years.
