Our client is seeking an individual to join its private equity team as an Associate in the summer of 2017 or 2018.

The Associate is responsible for creating extraordinary outcomes as he/she works in small teams with other private equity professionals on all phases of the investment process as well as on existing portfolio management. Given the entrepreneurial nature of the firm, the Associate will also participate in other functions and capacities as needed. The Associate position is considered a two-year track with opportunity for longer-term retention as appropriate. This position reports to Vice Presidents and Directors.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate will perform responsibilities similar to those typically performed by an Associate at a lower middle-market private equity firm, including:

  • Managing new investment pipeline (reviewing teasers and offering memorandums, processing confidentiality agreements, creating weekly pipeline reports, etc.) 

  • Creating complex valuation and financial models 

  • Analyzing, synthesizing, and deriving insights from disparate data sources 

  • Performing market research and attending industry events as appropriate 

  • Assisting with the creation of investor presentations and investment committee materials 

  • Working with the team on business, competitive, operational, financial, and industry due 
diligence throughout the investment process 

  • Executing new investments, recap, or sale transactions in coordination with senior 
professionals 

  • Assisting with portfolio management 

  • Organizing and maintaining the team’s sourcing CRM, portfolio reporting, and internal tools 

  • Assisting with the creation of marketing and presentation materials 

  • Assisting with ongoing internal improvement initiatives  

  • Assisting with administrative functions as requested, including board/meeting notes, fund 
administration, recruiting, press releases, etc.
 The Associate will also perform critical responsibilities that may be unique to our client, including:

Education, Experience and Skills


The Associate has/demonstrates: 


  • An undergraduate degree and strong academic record from a highly respected institution 

  • At least 1-2 years in investment banking or consulting at a highly respected firm and a strong 
grasp of accounting and finance 

  • Well-rounded, intensely curious, “glass-half-full” orientation 

  • Demonstrated ability to make short-term sacrifice for long-term success; willingness to “run 
through walls” to support the team’s goals 

  • Balanced professional interests, including a desire to be involved across each of the financial, 
operational, strategic, and human aspects of investing in businesses 

  • Uncompromising attention to detail that inspires confidence 

  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of information/data and present ideas clearly 

  • Mature perspective on priorities and clear ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously 

  • A genuine interest in business operations and working with management teams to improve 
them 

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to comfortably communicate with 
multiple personality types 

  • Ability to thrive in an unstructured environment without rigidly defined procedures 

  • Value-centric individual with a great attitude, demonstrated resourcefulness, and a humble 
willingness to learn from all team members 

  • A consistent track record of extraordinary performance.


The Associate is even more likely to succeed at our client in the long term if he or she has/demonstrates:

  • Relentless preparation and perseverance during adversity (e.g., athletics, military, etc.) 

  • Ties to the Southwest or a clearly demonstrated interest in the region 

  • Proficiency with Tableau or other big-data analytics software 

  • Experience creating high-impact visual presentations (e.g., through PowerPoint) 

  • Exceptional writing skills and keen grasp of grammar and punctuation 

  • Passion for private equity investing and other alternative investment strategies 

  • A great sense of humor, a love for animals (especially dogs), and a clear preference for jeans 
over suits
